Explorer 30

Explorer 30 is an exciting course that gives you a taste of the different specialised diving areas. Whether you want to go deeper, dive at night or simply improve your buoyancy and general diving skills, this is the course for you. Majority of the course is practical, meaning most of what we do will just be dive, dive, and more diving. Throughout the course you will be completing 5 different dives, each with their own area of specialisation.

Out of the 5 dives 3 are what we refer to as core dives, these are dives that have to be completed in order to participate in the course.

  • Deep dive: This opens a variety of different reefs that would previously have been outside of your training. In Sodwana Bay,Isimangaliso Wetland Park we have a wide range of reefs between 20 and 30 metres making this the perfect place to do your training.
  • Navigation dive: Knowing how to find your way around is an extremely important skill in diving, and will add unimaginable enjoyment to your dives. Being able to navigate on your own (in a buddy team) gives you immense freedom in not only choosing dive sites, but the route followed on a specific dive site. Although not as applicable to diving in Sodwana Bay due to the nature of the dives we do, it can still be mastered in the conditions that we face on a daily basis.
  • Buoyancy dive: Want to be more comfortable? Extend your dive time by increasing your air consumption?  The easiest way to do this is increasing your buoyancy control. The better your buoyancy is, the better your dives will be. There is a buoyancy component on every RAID dive course, and Explorer 30 is the next step to be the best diver you can be

The other 2 dives are called elective dives, these give you the freedom to explore different types of diving of your choosing. There are a wide variety of electives to choose from and the majority of them can be done in the Marine protected area- Sodwana Bay.

Elective dives:

  • Search and recovery
  • Underwater naturalist
  • Digital photography
  • Drift dive
