Symbiotic Relationships
Mutualism, Parasitic and Commencialism these are the three main symbiotic relationships that you get in the underwater world. Mutualism meaning both benefit, Parasitic meaning one benefits and one is harmed, Commensalism meaning one benefits but none are harmed. Some things that are seriously incredible about symbiotic relationships is that two different species work together and help each other, a good example of this is the Yellow Edge Lyre Tail and Moray eels. The Yellow Edge Lyre Tail will begin by finding an eel and getting the eel interested by vibrating the water around its body almost like a warrior doing a dance before a hunt, the eel will in return swim out of its hole and both eel and fish will swim together to different places on the reef. The eel will then dart into holes within the reef and chase out all the reef fish and crustaceans and the Yellow Edge Lyre Tail will be waiting in ambush to collect its prey as it swims out and both eel and fish will eat and be beneficially satisfied and then move on to a different part of the reef until the eel or fish is tired and will just swim away from their hunting partner, indicating that the hunt is over. What’s so interesting about this behaviour is during this whole experience other fish such as the Blue Fin King fish will join in and it turns into one big feeding frenzy and then each will go on its own way and live its separate life until feeding begins again.

Visiting Sodwana Bay,Kwazulu Natal will guarantee you the most incredible dives and certainly experience so many relationships amongst all the species and creatures the ocean has to offer.
