Diving became so much fun and interesting for me especially when certain factors are put into perspective. Its not just about massive sharks, turtles and rays its also about the little things that tend to slip past the eyesight but just given a chance you’ll find that the ocean has a lot more to offer then just what has been brought to our attention.

Nudibranchs
Spineless hermaphroditic pirates that live on chemosensory wits and have a furious carnivorous and cannibalistic appetite. That is what a nudibranchs life is all about. They are sea slugs that have evolved to live without a shell or with a much reduced shell, resulting in an extravaganza of forms, colours and modes of living.
The word Nudibranch means naked lungs. The gill set is mostly situated towards the back and is surrounding the anus, I know sounds crazy right.. having your anus in the middle of your lungs, but not to worry most nudibranchs can retract their lungs during excretion. And how? you ask, can such small creature survive in the big fast space called the ocean well that’s all thanks to the fact that nudibranchs are poisonous and can poison an entire tank if kept in captivity. I have come to love these amazing creatures and their curious way of living and surviving in the wild waters of rocky shores to deep depth of the open ocean. Each one is different to the next and finding them is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Sodwana Bay,Isimangaliso Wetland park in Kwazulu Natal ,South Africa is one of the best places to find these amazing creatures. 2 mile reef has the most amazing diversity of fish life and species and is a 2.5km and 1km home to so many of these named Nudibranchs. We are able to Scuba Dive on over 36 different dive sites and always an abundance of Nudis to be seen.
